DAES PostDoc Alan Brammer captures the sunset over the Gulf of Mexico on the return leg of the NOAA hurricane hunters flight into TD9.

TD9 has been especially difficult to forecast so far. These flights provide accurate centre locations for NHC to monitor the location and intensity of the system. The radar and dropsonde data collected will also provide researchers valuable information to understand why this system struggled to develop and has been very unpredictable to this point.
