Earth Day 2015

On April 19, 2015, the University at Albany held its third annual "Family Earth Day" event from 1 to 4 pm. This event, which is organized by the Department of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences (DAES) and the UAlbany Office of Sustainability Programs, with support from University   Auxiliary Services, Student Success, the Office of the Vice President for Research, Graduate Students for Sustainability, the National Earth Science Teachers Association, and DAES, hosted over 100 guests from the community, with a focus on families with young children aged ~5 - 12 years old.  With a focus on fun, activities and demonstrations introduced participants to environmental science and sustainability topics - ranging from composting and solar ovens to disappearing glaciers and bird beak adaptations - as well as "gee-wiz" atmospheric science demonstrations and even the chance to participate in a weather balloon launch!  A total of 54 undergraduate and graduate students and faculty from many departments and organizations across the university helped to make the event a success, and had the opportunity to share their knowledge with their community, in the process.
