What people are saying about applied learning...

To me, experiential education on top of a fine classical academic curriculum is a very natural way to inspire students to see where their studies are going and to prepare them for success after graduation whether it is a job and/or further education.  I often say that higher education done this way is like rowing the boat with both oars. ~ Provost Jim Steller

Applied Learning

Welcome to University at Albany Applied Learning

Applied learning experiences at UAlbany allow students to complement classroom knowledge and acquire relevant disciplinary and professional skills by participating in substantial, hands-on activities. Applied learning opportunities typically include planning, training, monitoring, reflection, and evaluation, can be credit bearing or not, and can take place locally or abroad.

Examples where UAlbany students “learn by doing” include:
• undergraduate research and field study
• service learning and volunteerism
• internships and clinical placements
• study abroad
