Student Research Symposium
2006 Call for Abstracts - Click for info.
The AGSO Symposium is an opportunity for graduate students to present their current research to the faculty and their fellow students. Students give a 15 minute talk with a 5 minute Q&A. It is a great way to get presentation practice, an essential skill for those of us planning careers in academia. Topics can cover past or present research in anthropology.
HELPFUL HINTS FROM FACULTY
- Use of AV material can enhance or detract from a good presentation. Avoid dense text that forces the audience to do an inordinate amount of reading. Do not linger on a slide or image too long; if you do not plan on using visual thruout the presentation, turn them off when finished.
- State your hypothesis at the beginning of the presentation. Do not wait until the end and merely present it in summary. State your hypothesis, present the body of you talk, and conclude by reiterating your findings in light of your hypothesis.
