To thank our donors for putting The World Within Reach for our students, George R. Hearst III, president of The University at Albany Foundation and George M. Philip’69, ’73, president of the University at Albany, will host a private reception for donors and student scholarship recipients, followed by the Reaching Higher, Achieving More luncheon. Donors and students will have an opportunity to mingle and have keepsake photos taken before attending the luncheon, which will recognize longtime UAlbany supporters Ken Johnson ’78 and Dr. Robert Paeglow '76. By invitation only.

Reaching Higher, Achieving More is an alumni campaign designed to showcase the remarkable career paths of the University at Albany graduates. They are entrepreneurs, educators, lawyers, corporate leaders, entertainers, doctors, social workers, authors, policymakers and more, and their impact is truly global. This year will showcase Ken Johnson ’78 and Dr. Robert Paegow '76. These alums along with the other alumni inducted into this campaign are points of pride for the entire UAlbany community. Registration required. Gonzalo Torrente Ballester: How one of Spain’s greatest authors lived, taught, and wrote some of his finest works in Albany and Tours of Exhibition

A Public Conference on Gonzalo Torrente Ballester (1910-1999), UAlbany’s first Distinguished Professor. He taught at UAlbany from 1966 to 1972 and left his personal and political diaries to our Libraries. The story of one of his most famous novels starts on our campus! Keep Memories Alive: Preserving Family Photos
Grenander Department of Special Collections & Archives Science Library, Third floor
This workshop will focus on the preservation of photos (including digital) and other family treasures so future generations can appreciate your family's experiences, heritage and history. Examples will be shown of the safe display, storage and care of some of photographs, one of the most common items in family collections. Participants are encouraged to bring items for examination and discussion.  Speakers from the University at Albany Libraries' Preservation Department and Department of Special Collections and Archives will lead the discussion. University Art Museum
Based on a long-standing track record of UAlbany’s success among its graduates in the visual arts field, the exhibition will highlight the individual accomplishments of working alumni artists. Curated by Ken Johnson ’78, freelance critic for the New York Times, stop by the University Art Museum to take in the many works by talented UAlbany alumni, meet the artists and connect with alumni while enjoying a sample of New York wines and cheeses. This exhibition is supported by a generous grant from the University at Albany Alumni Association. 2011 honorees, Megan Buchanan ’00 (Basketball & Golf, 1996-2000), Steve Checksfield ’08 (Baseball & Football, 1997-2001), Samantha Cohen ‘99 (Track & Field, 1996-99) and Howard Sellers ’95 (Track & Field, 1991-94) will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Get a guided tour of the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) National Weather Service Forecast Office at UAlbany and learn about weather forecasts and the technology that gives forecasters the ability to provide accurate weather information. Bus transportation will be available. Bus departs at 10:10 a.m. The tour will begin in the CESTM Rotunda.
