Admissions Ambassadors

UAlbany Admissions Ambassadors help the Admissions Team recruit talented, well-qualified students who are a good “fit” for UAlbany. Ambassadors are excellent resources for interested students and their families who want to learn more about the benefits of a UAlbany education, student/faculty interaction, campus activities, and career opportunities.

Ways to Volunteer
There are several ways you can help the Admissions Team:

Host or Participate in an Accepted Student Reception
Each spring, the Admissions Team travels to key areas in the Northeast to meet accepted students and their families. This year, the focus will be on Westchester, Long Island and Syracuse. Volunteers are needed to host receptions in these areas March 20-April 10 as well as to participate in the programs. Alumni can assist by making presentations and participating in informal discussions with attendees about their college experience and professional accomplishments.

Open Houses
In April and October, the University invites hundreds of students to campus for a day of conversation, information and tours. Local alumni are needed to greet students and families, participate in an alumni panel presentation, and provide attendees with information about their college experience and professional accomplishments during the Academic Fair.

Calling Program
Help UAlbany reach out to accepted students as part of the Alumni Calling Program. Alumni volunteers are asked to call a handful of students who have expressed in interest in UAlbany to answer questions and provide a positive perspective on the University. The calling pool will include early action students (January) and regularly accepted students (March-April).

Summer Send-Offs
Host a casual get-together for incoming freshmen from your area before they leave for UAlbany. Give new students a chance to meet each other, current students and alumni as they become part of the UAlbany community.

Refer a Prospective Student
In this global and increasingly challenging market, your partnership in admissions recruiting efforts is critical to keep UAlbany at the forefront. Be an ambassador for UAlbany in your community and recommend your alma mater to local students.

Attend a College Fair
With the beginning of the academic years comes the beginning of the fall college fair season as well. Fairs take place during the day and evening in high schools, colleges and convention centers across New York and a handful of other states. Alumni volunteers are needed to answer questions from prospective students and parents and to discuss their college and professional experiences. Volunteers may attend a fair by themselves or with an Admissions officer, depending on size and location. Training will be provided to all college fair volunteers.
