About the Project
Welcome
to the UAlbany Veterans Project Site. This site is
designed to honor the sacrifice and contributions
of UAlbany veterans and peacekeepers and to keep alive
the long history of military service of UAlbany alumni,
faculty, staff and students. It is a history that
reaches as far back as the Mexican-American War and
continues proudly today as UAlbany veterans serve
in the defense of freedom around the world.
This
UAlbany Veterans Project began in 1999, when a group
of dedicated volunteers led by Eunice Whittlesey '44
began to compile a list of UAlbany individuals who
have served their country during war or peace time.
Their goal was to ensure that the sacrifices and achievements
of these veterans were not forgotten.
The
project quickly blossomed into a major
celebratory event, which took place June 9, 2001.
As part of the event, the University unveiled an nine
panel, 36-foot Wall of Honor inscribed with the names
of all these servicemen and women.
The
stories of our UAlbany veterans are full of patriotism,
bravery and sacrifice. To view their names, visit
our Veterans Archive.
You can also view photographs, stories and personal
memorabilia. You also are invited to send
us material relevant to the project, which we
will include in the Archives.
