Consider Willett graduated from the Normal
School in 1862 and enlisted in the 44th New York Volunteer Infantry,
where he became Orderly Sergeant. He participated in the battles of
Fredericksburg, Chancellorville and Gettysburg. After Gettysburg,
he was promoted to Captain in the 2nd Regiment, USCI, and transferred
to Florida where he served until the end of the war. When the war
ended, he returned to Albany to study law and was admitted to the
bar. In 1867, he graduated from Michigan University Law School, then
relocated to Chicago. |
