Reuben Warrell, class of 1951, served in Panama with the US Army
during peacetime in 1936, and in the Navy during World War II. While
in the Navy, he was stationed in Key West, Florida, as an instructor
in the Fleet Sonar School. Using Sonar, the Navy was able to detect
enemy submarines, including German subs both in the war zones and
in the Atlantic near Florida.
The upper photograph shows Warrell in 1936, while stationed in
Panama, while the lower photo shows him in Florida in 1942, at the
Fleet Sonar School.
