Irving A. Verschoor

Irving Verschoor served in the US Army from December 1942 to October 1945. He enlisted and completed Officer Candidate Training, at which time he qualified as airborne and accepted assignment to the Office Of Strategic Services (OSS). He had extensive training in hand-to-hand combat, demolitions, spy crafts, radio communications, and qualified as an expert marksman.

He was posted to the OSS’s London Office where he first served as a training officer and later was a major player in the “Danish Mission,” supporting guerilla warfare and intelligence efforts behind German lines. When the war in Europe ended, the OSS was rapidly downsized and he was transferred back to the “regular” army at which time he requested to be relieved of active duty and returned to civilian life. He attained the rank of major although he was on the promotion list to lieutenant colonel when he left the army.
