Alan R. Stephenson, originally in the
class of 1952, served with the Air Force from February 1951 to September
1954. In a letter accompanying these photographs, he explained that
"Both were taken at a radar outpost in Hokaido, Japan where I
worked as a radar technician, tracking aircraft, particularly Russian
MIGs, during the Korean War. The one dated October 1952 [the upper
photo] was taken only a week or so after I arrived. The other, from
Dec 1952, shows a much cooler 'veteran' of that mountainous, desolate
location. I was an enlisted man." After his service ended, Stephenson
returned to Albany and graduated in 1955. |
