Robert H. Seifert graduated from Albany State Teachers College
on June 1, 1942. He enlisted in the Air Force on June 2, and was
called into service on December 7, 1942. After pre-flight training
in San Antonio, Texas and preliminary training in Independence,
Kansas, and in Missouri, he received his commission on October 1,
1943.
He underwent further training in Florida, and was apparently sent
overseas to England in early March 1944, although this posting had
not yet been officially announced when the War Department reported
that he had been missing in action since April 15. His family received
several letters from him, the first dated March 14 and the last
dated April 13, in which he wrote he was somewhere in England.
