Arthur David Rutstein was in the National
Guard and completing his undergraduate education in 1961 when, in
response to the Berlin Wall Crisis, President Kennedy federalized
his National Guard unit and he was called to active duty. The photo
shows Rutstein during the winter/spring of 1962, manning a defensive
position of the 131st Engineer Co (LE) during field maneuvers at Ft.
Devens, MA. He is the man closer to the camera, wearing the pile or
"bunny" hat. |
