Curt Pfaff was a student at Albany State when the
Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. He joined the Enlisted Reserve
Program, but remained at State until March 1, 1943. He joined
the 10th Mountain Division (Ski Troops) at Camp Hale, Colorado.
He expected that he would be sent to Europe, but
instead he were sent to the South Pacific with the Signal Corps
on Guadalcanal. In 1945, as the Allies island-hopped across the
Pacific, he was injured on Leyte in the Philippines and returned
to the US. He was discharged in January 1946, in time to begin
the second term at Albany, three years after he left. He completed
his degree in 1948.
