Elton Murphy graduated from the Albany State College for Teachers in 1938 and began his teaching career at Granville High School in Granville, NY. He entered the Army in July 1942 and was sent to Camp Gruber, OK, before going overseas to fight in Europe. He received the Legion of Merit, as well as the Good Conduct Medal and the European Theater Ribbon with campaign star.
