Charles Fredric Miller, later
class of 1949, was in the Merchant Marine from 1941 to 1946. During
that time, he served aboard 9 vessels, one of which was torpedoed
of the coast of Russia, near Murmansk. From the War Shipping Administration,
he received the Atlantic War Zone Bar, the Pacific War Zone Bar, and
the Mediterranean Middle East War Zone Bar, confirming his service
in each of these areas, as well as the Merchant Marine Combat Bar,
confirming his active service aboard a ship engaged in direct enemy
action. When the war ended, he had reached the rank of Lieutenant,
junior grade. After the war, he worked for NASA on Sounding Rockets
and on the Apollo mission. |
