William Mackie attended Albany
State from 1955 to 1957, later graduating from West Point and joining
the US Air Force. He served as a navigator on reconnaissance aircraft,
primarily the RC-135. This photograph was taken in late 1963 on the
beach of Paeng-Yang-Do, an island off the western coast of North Korea
which belongs to South Korea. When the tide was low, the beach served
as a runway. When he retired from the Air Force, he had reached the
rank of Colonel (0-6) |
