Harold A. Haynes, class of 1938, enlisted
in the US Marine Corps in 1942. He spent 1943 on Parris Island, SC
at recruit training; in Quantico, VA at Marine Officer Candidate School;
in Columbus, GA at Army Communications School; and in Los Angeles
at Naval Signal School. From 1944 to 1946, he was stationed around
the world, including Naval Air Station, North Island, CA; MCAS El
Centro, CA; Midway Island on Combat Air Patrol; Emirau, Bismark Archipelago;
Leyte and Zamboanga in the Philippines; MCAS El Toro, CA; and Naval
Air Station Miramar, San Diego, CA. His overseas service was with
Marine Fighting Squadron 313, Marine Air group 12 as a Communications
Officer. In this capacity, he supervised aircraft radio, radar, telephone
network and communications operations. |
