Philip W. Carter, who entered the University in the class of 1964,
attended Albany from 1960 to 1963. After he left the University,
he served in the Navy from 1964 to 1968 as a Radarman 2nd Class.
He was stationed aboard the USS
Gridley DLG-21, and spent three tours of duty in Vietnam,
participating in search and rescue operations for downed pilots.
In 1967, he received a commendation from the Commander in Chief,
US Pacific Fleet, for these activities.
