Gregory Michael Benson served as a medical corpsman in the Army during World War II.

Following the war, Benson's long career in education included time as Executive Director of the Capital Area School Development Council, a field service agency for the University at Albany, and teaching positions at the University at Albany and the College of Saint Rose. Benson died in Albany on October 8, 2000 after a brief illness.
