Richard Beach enlisted in the Army reserved in November 1942,
and was called to active duty in March 1943. He trained in the
field artillery, then went to Europe in December 1944. Beach served
non-combat and occupation duty in France and Germany until his
discharge in March 1946.
After his discharge, he attended Albany Sttae College for Teachers
and graduated in 1948. He also re-enlisted in the Army Reserve
and served both active and inactive reserve duty until his retirement
on April 13, 1984. By the time of his retirement, he had reached
the rank of Colonel.
