Curriculum & Academic Goals

School Level

Build fundamental skills early within a cohesive and coherent curriculum

Higher-performing elementary schools ensure that fundamental skills are developed early. Teachers start in kindergarten with key concepts in reading, writing, and mathematics and build on these in a coherent sequence at each grade level.

On Target

Missing the Mark

In high needs, urban schools, ensure that all students learn fundamental skills in the classroom

When fundamental skills are not learned early in the classroom, failing students are remediated

Ulysses Byas Elementary, Roosevelt Union Free School District, describes goals, action steps, evaluations, responsible people, and timelines in its school improvement plan.
