Numbers & Futures |

|
Numbers & Futures is an intervention program designed to improve the computational and mathematical problem-solving ability of minority high school females in order to expand the range of career options available to them in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). The development phase of the model involves students in an existing after-school program that serves students with unsatisfactory academic performance. Female math tutors effectively engage and instruct these students in a mixed gender, informal after-school environment. The curriculum includes hands-on discovery and problem solving activities utilizing engaging software resources, individual and group tutoring, career explorations, internships, and access to professional role models. Following initial development and testing, the model will be replicated at other sites in New York State.
