This three-university partnership conducts research to advance basic understanding of how educational policy and specific program interventions in primary school mathematics and reading comprehension teaching support and constrain educational opportunities for students in urban, rural and private schools in the Dominican Republic.
In addition, its purpose is to further U.S. development assistance policy; build an international partnership to support Dominican education policy making by aiding in the continuing development of domestic capabilities in policy analysis and evaluation among government and non-government actors; and develop a system of learning and educational opportunity indicators and the technology for their continued improvement and analysis. This technology can then be turned over to the Dominican education sector to aid in the development of evaluation and monitoring systems. The project has analyzed data collected from a national sample of 200 schools and 27,000 third, fourth and fifth grade students and is completing a second round of testing and surveys.
