Active Generations Featured in AARP Bulletin

"Fighting Childhood Obesity," published in the January AARP Bulletin, features the OASIS-sponsored program Active Generations and features three volunteers from the Albany area. Active Generations is an intergenerational afterschool program designed to curb obesity by teaching children in third through fifth grades about healthy nutrition and exercise. Healthy Hearts on the Hill Final Report Released [December 2009]

In the absence of mainstream services reaching out effectively to many health disparity communities, the Healthy Hearts on the Hill Coalition was formed to raise awareness about the impact of behavioral risk factors for cardiovascular health and to provide leadership and advocacy by building awareness and access to the means for sustainable behavior change. To date, hundreds of West Hill and surrounding community members have engaged in one or more activities of the Coalition. For more information, please contact Lisa A. On May 12, 2008, the Center for Excellence in Aging Services partnered with ExcelleShare, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), the New York State Capital Region OASIS Program, and the Capital District Physicians’ Health Plan (CDPHP) to recognize the senior volunteers of the Capital District Region.

Civic Engagement and Reflection Event PaperReport: Civic Engagement: Recognition and Reflection

This report resulted from a November 27, 2007 Civic Engagement and Reflection Event which brought together more than 30 not-for-profit agencies in the Capital Region, representative of governmental agencies and foundations and over 40 volunteers and new retirees all interested in the redesign of volunteering and volunteer opportunities. Forum on Women's Health and Intergenerational CaregivingReport: Forum on Women's Health & Intergenerational Caregiving

This 37-page report is the result of the November 9, 2007 Forum on Women's Health and Intergenerational Caregiving. Approximately one hundred people, many of them caregivers and others drawn from not-for-profit and governmental organizations from the Capital Region of New York State joined together in the Forum to gain a better understanding of concerns related to women’s health and intergenerational in-home and community-based caregiving in the Capital Region. The report details the structure of the forum, the issues discussed and presents the recommendations of the Forum.
