Kitale AIDS Orphans and Street Children Project (KAOSCP) - Kenya The project was started in 1999 as an outreach initiative of the World Revival and Salvation Ministries (WRSM), founded in 1990 by Bishop Robert Makona. The project is based in Kitale in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya. The goal of the project has been to cater to the survival needs of orphans whose parents have died of AIDS. Such orphans end up in the streets as rampant poverty is related to the lack of custodial care. The project also seeks to meet the needs of other street children who have found themselves in dire circumstances due to various factors. The principal services offered to children include a hospitable and conducive environment for growth and rehabilitation into society through entry into the formal education system. In addition, young children are offered counseling and AIDS-related education to make them appreciate the dangers of this disease. The children are also trained to be peer counselors to other children in the school system and in the local surrounding area. Currently, there are about 20 children housed in the project. However, the demand has exceeded capacity. While the project hopes to significantly expand the number of AIDS orphans served, it is unable to admit more children due to financial constraints. The KAOSCP project has ample land for development and for the accommodation of more than 200 children, it cannot now do so because of limited resources. The SAFA Campaign is currently assisting two Kenyan orphans. Kenyan Project Coordinator: Bishop Robert Makona, World Revival and Salvation Ministries If you wish to contribute
