Summer Program in Ghana and Kenya 2004 with a stop over in Ethiopia


Program Objectives:
The Department of Africana Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences, University at Albany, State University of New York is offering its fourth summer program in Ghana, West Africa. This year's program will also include Kenya, East Africa as well as a stop in Ethiopia. This summer program is scheduled for July 2 through August 3, 2004. The program is offered to undergraduate and graduate students and/or to any person wishing to participate. It is not limited to students from the University at Albany. This program is conceptualized to achieve the following objectives:

    • To provide participants with the opportunity for cultural discovery and reconnection with African traditions and practices.
    • To promote and enhance participants' knowledge of Ghanian and African issues. In addition the students will be immersed in an intensive study of the Ghanaian culture and the Twi (Akan) language.
    • To provide an opportunity for participants to take courses that contribute to the Department of Africana Studies' curriculum.
    • To strengthen academic linkages between the Department of Africana Studies and Ghanaian and Kenyan universities.
