New Transfer Student Academic Advisement

2. Your Transfer Credit

Transfer Credit Equivalencies

Thousands of courses taught by other institutions have been reviewed at the University at Albany so that the appropriate equivalency is given when a student transfers the credit to UAlbany.  However, this is a dynamic process, as courses change, numbering systems are updated and changes are made to General Education programs and requirements.

You may have questions about how a particular class has transferred to UAlbany.

1. If a class is missing from your Transfer Evaluation Report you may contact Undergraduate Admissions – (518-442-5435). Please be prepared to indicate the school, semester, and course that is missing.
2. If a class transfers in as a generic course (XXX010), but you believe it should meet a specific requirement in your major or minor, note this on your Educational Plan for consideration by your advisor.  You may be asked to provide syllabi or other course materials to support your request.
3. If your Degree Audit does not use a particular transfer class to satisfy a General Education Requirement you may ask for further consideration. Any classes that satisfied a General Education requirement at another SUNY institution will satisfy that same requirement at this campus. However, if the class did not satisfy a Gen Ed there, we cannot use it to do so here, unless it transfers in as an exact equivalent to a class that satisfies the requirement here.
  a. The general education transcript (GETA) from your school will indicate which general education requirements you completed there. If any of these are not indicated as satisfied on your DARS, you can bring your GETA to the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, in LC 30, when you arrive on campus.

b. Classes taken at non-SUNY institutions can be considered to meet General Education requirements at UAlbany.  You may visit the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, in LC 30,  with your specific request.  Please be prepared to indicate the school, semester, and course you would like considered for general education credit. You may be asked to provide syllabi or other course materials to support your request.
