James R. Van Voorst
James R. Van Voorst was appointed Vice President for Finance and Business in 2014.
As the University’s chief financial officer, he is responsible for all campus financial management and budgeting activities. In addition, Van Voorst oversees the campus’ physical plant operations, capital construction, procurement, human resources, and environmental health and sustainability programs.
Most recently, Van Voorst served in various leadership capacities at Binghamton University, SUNY, including Vice President for Administration. During this tenure, he was appointed by the SUNY Board of Trustees to serve as Interim Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, responsible for oversight and coordination of all financial, administrative, and human resource matters related to the 64 campuses of the State University of New York.
Before joining Binghamton’s administrative team, he served as Controller for the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Van Voorst also previously served UAlbany as accountant from 1980 to 1998. Before that post, he was a supervising auditor for the state comptroller of New York.
An experienced university administrator, Van Voorst has been licensed as a CPA in New York state since 1979, and is a member and past president of the Association of Governmental Accountants, N.Y. Capital Chapter.
Van Voorst earned an undergraduate degree in accounting from Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y. and a master’s degree in accounting from the University at Albany.
