Transaction Processing Systems:
Their objective is to process transactions in order to update records
and generate reports, ie., to perform score-keeping functions.

Decision Support Systems:
Their objective is to support the managerial decisions. Usually, these
systems are based on a model of the decision-making domain, and
utilize techniques from management science, finance or other
functional areas of business in order to build such models. These
systems are also used often for attention-directing purposes,
ie., for directing the attention of managers to a problematic
aspect of operations.

Expert Systems:
These systems incorporate expertise in order to aid managers
in diagnosing problems or in problem-solving.
