Christopher Fernando

Co-Deputy Director - Office of Academic Support Services (OASS)

Chris Fernando has over 10 years experience working in higher education and promoting college success. Dr. Fernando has served as TRIO Student Support Services Coordinator for over eight years and was recently appointed as Co-Deputy Director of the University’s Office of Academic Support Services. In this capacity he oversees the campus Science & Technology Entry Program (STEP) and Collegiate Science & Technology Entry Program (CSTEP). He has extensive experience working with nontraditional populations, including students from underrepresented backgrounds, first-generation college students, low-income students as well as students with disabilities. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from University at Albany.


Students participate in more than 200 student clubs and honor societies, and enjoy a busy calendar of campus events.
