Director of Institute for Teaching, Learning & Academic Leadership
Bill Roberson came to UAlbany in 2006 as founding director of the Institute for Teaching, Learning, and Academic Leadership. His career in faculty development has focused on discovering and promoting ways of fostering reflective, critical thinking in adult learners. He consults with faculty members in all disciplines to integrate innovative and proven practices into university teaching and learning processes. The institute produces workshops, seminars and academies on teaching, and provides a variety of services that facilitate faculty work.
Before coming to UAlbany he held positions in faculty development at UNC-Chapel Hill, Indiana University and the University of Texas at El Paso, where he served as founding executive director of the Instructional Support Services division. He received his Ph.D. in literary studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and has held instructional positions at multiple levels of higher education, from tier-one research institutions such as Duke University to regional public institutions in Georgia, Texas and Japan.
