Since its founding as the Albany Normal School in 1844, the University at Albany has been nurturing leaders in New York State, the nation and the world. These graduates have helped transform education for the benefit of student achievement and success.
More than 45 graduate degree programs at the master's, certificate and doctoral levels fulfill the Schools mission. They include two online masters degrees. Although primarily a graduate institution, the School offers a broad range of opportunities in undergraduate education, including a minor.

The Department of Reading developing reading specialists at the masters level and experts in literacy studies at the doctoral level
