On behalf of the University at Albany, I write to respectfully request the inclusion of all four SUNY University Centers in the upcoming UB 2020 Summit in May. This conversation could potentially yield landmark legislation that drives significant job creation and economic growth for our University and the Capital Region.
Under the current proposals, UB 2020/SUNY Empowerment would provide pioneering fiscal and regulatory relief to campuses included in the legislation. This landmark reform, if enacted, would equip these campuses with:

Since 1962, the four University Centers have played a major role in the educational, research, and economic life of their home regions. The groundbreaking reforms incorporated in UB 2020/SUNY Empowerment which will enable the University Centers to realize their untapped potential, and in so doing, transform their regional economies.
At UAlbany, these no-cost, deregulatory measures will enable our campus to significantly expand its academic enterprise by creating new jobs, grow student enrollment, generate research and development, and constructing new capital facilities – all outcomes which will spur economic growth and vitality in the Capital Region. A win for the University and a win for the region!
While I am enormously appreciative of the State’s past and future capital investments in the University, including the NanoCollege, I am certain that our inclusion in these negotiations is crucial to the future vitality of our University and our region as a whole.
I look forward to discussing with you the University’s exciting expansion and development plans, which leverage the flexibilities and autonomies incorporated in the UB 2020/SUNY Empowerment legislation.
