Paul Layton, a freshman placekicker and punter on the UAlbany football team, has been awarded the Capital District Student Scholarship. An outstanding athlete and scholar, Layton was selected Class A first-team all-state by the New York State Sportswriters Association. He made 68 of 69 point-after attempts and three field goals, and averaged 42 yards per punt. He ranks third on the all-time Section II kicking list with 77 points.
In 2008, Layton led Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School to its second sectional title in the last three years and a trip to the state championship game. A National Honor Society Student, Layton plans to study business administration at UAlbany.
The Capital District Student Scholarship, sponsored by New York Giants Football, Inc., provides a full four year scholarship for students on the UAlbany football team who demonstrate academic and athletic excellence.
