Gary M. Jacobson '82 Scholarship

Supporting student leadership and community service

Gary Jacobson Scholar Sadia Mobeen, 19, is a sophomore who intends to major in biology. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native is on her way to attaining her career goal, gynecologist: Last summer, she volunteered at Coney Island Hospital in the OB-GYN, pediatrics and neonatal units.

Mobeen, who has six sisters and two brothers, was concerned she might not be able to afford college. "I always felt I couldn't, and I didn't want to burden my parents financially. So getting the Jacobson Scholarship gives me hope that I will be able to complete my education. I will never forget this. The scholarship was the start of my dream, and I sincerely want to thank everyone who gave me this opportunity."

Gary Jacobson, B.A. '82 a director of The University at Albany Foundation, established the Jacobson Scholarship. It supports undergraduates who have shown initiative and/or involvement in community-service projects that benefit children.
