Excelsior Circle

The societies within the Excelsior Circle take their names from the presidents of UAlbany's past.  Each were instrumental in the University's transformation from the Teacher's College into a nationally ranked academic and research institution.  The Excelsior Circle honors these influential University presidents of the past, and recognizes alumni and friends of today whose gifts of $25,000 or more ensure the tradition of excellence continues for many generations to come.

Evan Revere Collins Society ~ $1,000,000 and up
President Evan R. Collins (1949-1969) was responsible for stewarding, with grace and acumen, the transformation of this institution from a college for teachers to an all-encompassing university.
 
Abram Brubacher Society ~ $500,000 to $999,999
One of the longest serving presidents, Abram Brubacher (1915-1939) greatly strengthened undergraduate and graduate education while doubling the size of the downtown campus.
 
John M. Sayles Society ~ $250,000 to $499,999
President John M. Sayles (1941-1947) supported the creation of a five year program for permanent teaching certification and commissioned many of the post World War II building plans for the NYS College for Teachers.
 
William J. Milne Society ~ $100,000 to $249,999
During the dawn of the 20th century, President Milne (1889-1914) shepherded the school's growth and transformation into the New York State College for Teachers.
 
Edward P. Waterbury Society ~ $25,000 to $99,999
As first alumnus President, Edward P. Waterbury '49 (1882-1889) was integral in the cultivation of the Alumni Association and a proponent of early fund raising campaigns.
