A unique professional development opportunity for whole-school improvement.

COMPASS in line with new federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), an op-ed published in the January 12, 2016 Times Union.

The COMPASS Institute's professional development program meets the following criteria for most New York State schools:

  • Enables faculty to demonstrate professional growth and development within the APPR system.
  • Contributes hours toward New York State Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) requirements
  • Provides in-service credit.

COMPASS Institute's multi-step process will help your leadership team effectively guide your school toward practices aligned with meeting the Common Core Standards:

  • Take the pulse of your school by comparing your practices to those of odds-beating similar schools serving challenging populations in the state
  • Use COMPASS procedures and tools to assess your priorities for improvement
  • Select levers for improvement by examining online practices of odds-beating schools
  • Set SMART Goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Results Oriented/Relevant/ Rigorous, and Time Bound) and develop an action plan for meeting them
  • Set action steps and plan for follow-up meetings and assistance through coaching.
