The SUNY University Faculty Senate Committee on Programs and Awards is now accepting proposals for the 2012-13 competitive cycle of the Conversations in the Disciplines program. The deadline to submit proposals is March 30, 2012; however, it is advised that the campus conduct a review before final submission. Interested UAlbany faculty wishing to sponsor a conference should first submit an emailed proposal to their Dean by March 1, 2012. After the Dean’s approval, it is the applicant's responsibility to secure the signature of the Vice President for Research and to submit the proposal by March 30, 2012 as instructed in the guidelines and instructions.
2012 Junior Researcher Awards in Demography

The Center for Social and Demographic Analysis is again sponsoring several Junior Researcher Awards of up to $5,000 each in 2012 to promote the development of demographic research agendas of junior researchers. Proposals should fit within CSDA’s signature themes of Spatial Inequalities and Vulnerable Populations, or its initiatives in biodemography and health research. The primary purpose of these awards is to provide an incentive to help junior researchers succeed in attracting external funding from NIH or NSF on population related topics. Applications must be submitted electronically to Linda Lawrence, llawrence2@albany.edu, no later than February 17, 2012 as stated in the guidelines.

College of Computing and Information Professor Tomek Strzalkowski and co-investigator Jennifer Stromer-Galley in the Department of Communication are leading an interdisciplinary team of researchers, including Laurie Feldman and Elana Gordis in the Department of Psychology, to develop a non-commercial video game to help players recognize their biases and learn not to depend on decision-making shortcuts when processing and assessing information.
