Welcome!

          PROPHE - Program for Research On Private Higher Education seeks to build knowledge about private higher education around the world. PROPHE focuses on discovery, dissemination and analysis. PROPHE neither represents nor promotes private higher education. Its main mission is scholarship, which, in turn, should inform public discussion and policymaking.

Private Higher Education: Global Trends and Indian Perspectives is now published by Shipra. The book’s editors are PROPHEts Asha Gupta, Daniel Levy, and K.P. Powar.

Joanna Demurat has been admitted to the U Albany PhD program where she plans to continue her work on Polish private higher education and on semi-elite universities.

PROPHE Director Daniel C. Levy participated in a conference of the International Finance Corporation, May 14-16, with providers and government officials from around the world. The photo depicts his lecture at a panel on For-Profit vs. Non-Profit: Does it Matter? along with directors of the University of Phoenix and (ex) of Whitney International.Also See Private Education Growing Rapidly on IFC website.

Director Daniel C. Levy will participate in a conference "Alternatives to Traditional Modes of Higher Education" at the American Enterprise Institute in June.
         
PROPHE ran two panels at the annual Comparative International & Comparative Education Society, Teacher's College, NYC, March 2008. One focuses on Asia, the other on Latin America, both on the access and equity roles of "demand-absorbing" private higher education.For the details, please click "here."
   
Data on Japan's Single Country Case has been significantly updated from the version 2000 and show transformations within the country's private subsectors.
 

 PROPHE PhD student, Makoto Nagasawa, presented a talk on Japanese higher education privatization in Santiago , Chile , at its National Accreditation unit. http://www.cnachile.cl/actividades/act_02_2008.html.   PROPHE PhD student Prachayani Praphamontripong is doing field research back home for her dissertation on differentiation within Thai private higher education.

Last year PROPHE Director Daniel Levy taught a special course seminar on Privatization: Higher Education & Beyond, featuring key literature and invited speakers from international organizations, universities' leadership, and faculty experts. Click here for report & photos.

Fulbright New Century Scholars Juan Carlos Silas (Mexico) was in PROPHE residence this past summer, following the two Fulbright New Century Scholars from last year, Pedro Teixeira (Portugal) and Pablo Landoni (Uruguay).
