The history of Delta Chapter began in the Spring of 1988. Five
youngmen set out to create a legacy of perseverance, will and power.
This group of young men and 4 other individuals later to pledge
in the Fall of 1988, were the founding fathers of the Delta Chapter.
Once they crossed into the realm of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
they worked collectively, efficiently, and diligently to make this
chapter one of the most prestigious and distinguished chapters within
the brotherhood, earning it's nickname Distinguished Delta.
These men took initiative within the college community to promote
higher education, community service, a social atmosphere for our
people, and a voice for the Latinos not only on this campus but
in the Capital Region in general.
.....For 17 years now, this chapter has held numerous events for
its community, and has worked to bring various Latinos as well as
Latino organizations together on this campus. Delta Chapter has
contributed much to the Albany community. Brother Adam Ortiz created
the first Latino Greek Council. Brother Jose Maymi created the National
Latino Colligate Conference. Through its efforts, Delta has successfully
established itself on this campus for many years and continues to
provide activities to meet the needs of the Latino community.
So far Delta Chapter has crossed 64 Distinguished Brothers since
1988! There is no doubt that that in the years to come this chapter
will continue the success thus far experienced. The Lion is alive
Very
alive in Albany!
